Spiky and the Chesters – Grillin’ and Ballin’

Quote of the Day

Gratitude

I’m thankful for having a Sunday off from playing at church. I’m thankful for a pellet grill, and for learning to make protein balls.

The Pits

Finishing White Lotus.

The Peaks

I had the day off from playing at church, so I was up at 5am to get the Pit Boss pellet grill fired up to smoke some pork shoulder.

I got the pork on the grill around 6:30am.

We got the kids up at 8am and attended the 9:15am service as a family. Traci and I walked since we were tired of waiting on the boys. Turner and Weston drove and met us there.

At 10:30am, the park had reached 160 degrees, so I took it off to wrap it in aluminum foil.

After wrapping in foil, I poured in 2 cups of apple juice, and put it back on the grill for a bit.

After church, I relaxed for a bit, had lunch, then took Weston to Nolensville Park at 1:45pm for his flag football practice with 37135 Elite.

I walked around the park while they practiced, then we came back home.

We’d ordered Trek a new dog bed from Amazon, and it came in today, but he was slow to get up from his old bed to try out the new one. He finally did, and he really liked it.

Traci walked me through how to make protein balls.
– 3 Cups of Oats
– 1 Cup Peanut Butter
– 1/2 Cup of Chocolate Chips
– 1/2 Cup Honey

You essentially mix it all together and then roll them into little balls. It should make around 30 of them. I overachieved and made 31.

Around 5:30pm, I took the pork off the grill. It had been cooking for right at 11 hours.

I got it shredded, and then Traci, Weston, and I ate together. Turner had to go to Smyrna High School with Trey and Caleb to help Coach Steve with a 7v7 thing.

After dinner, I walked Trek around the circle playground.

Spiky and her husband saw us out and came over to check on Trek. They’d had to put their dog, Farrah, down toward the end of last year because of cancer. They loved on Trek, then we continued on with our walk.

Then a minivan pulled up next to us and asked if that was Trek. These folks were the Hester family, whose dog had attacked Trek. They were on their way to bring some homemade treats.

They got out of the car and I introduced myself. They also loved on Trek and he enjoyed one of the treats.

We discussed the incident, and I told them I thought Dottie was trying to protect the son, who had run over to get Dottie back inside.

They were very apologetic for everything that had happened. I’m glad we got to meet them. They seemed like a nice family and the kids were really sweet.

Don’t be fooled, Trek loves all the attention. I know he’s in pain, but he’s making the most of it for sure.

Traci and I watched the season 3 finale of White Lotus. Turner got home close to 9pm. He’d had a good time, but he was tired, so we all headed to bed.
