I read this book with my 9 and 7 year old boys. It caught their attention from the start and we were all excited to get back to reading it. August is an endearing character and we sympathized with him and the situations he experienced, seeing them through the eyes of someone with a physical abnormality. I hope that my children, and myself, will always “choose kind” when we encounter others who might be different than ourselves.
Powerful story, compelling characters, wonderful message.
